BLACK OPS AIRSOFT: Frequently Asked Questions

What is airsoft?

Airsoft is an action combat sport similar to paintball using non-metallic spherical pellets known as BBs.  Participants eliminate each other by shooting plastic BBs at one another.

What is the history of Airsoft?

In the 1970s, Japan made it illegal to own a firearm, though there was a large interest in them. Because of this interest, manufacturers started to produce spring-powered guns that appear real. These guns fired several calibers of plastic or rubber BBs, but were eventually standardized into 6 mm and 8 mm sizes. The early spring powered weapons then morphed into gas and battery powered ones, using a variety of systems. The hobby then migrated to North America in the mid 1990s. This is due in large part to the addition of many new AEG (Automatic Electric Gun) manufacturers in Japan, China, Taiwan, as well as many others.

Airsoft has also been adopted for training purposes for both military and police units (more often police units). Systema produces guns specifically designed for this purpose and are a 1:1 scale, in every aspect, of their real steel counterparts.

Where are you located?

The Field is located just outside of Penn Yan, New York. The actual street address is 1790 State Route 14A. Drive past the house and the water storage tank. Directions can be found here

How much does it cost to play?

Skirmishes are $10.00 for all day game play
Operations are $25.00 for all day game play

What's the difference between skirmishes and operations?

Skirmishes are smaller scaled games typically with fewer players. They tend to be short fast paces games with multiple types of scenarios and objectives
Operations are large scale games with a large group of players. The Op will have a back story, theme and multiple scenarios and objectives through out the day.

What does FPS mean?

FPS stands for Feet Per Second. This is the measurement in which the speed of the bb traveling out the gun is measured.

How do I measure the FPS?

In order to measure the FPS of any gun a chronograph is required. At any BOA event a chronograph is available. Also it is mandatory that any weapons going out onto the field must first pass through the chronograph to measure their FPS.

What are the FPS?

350 FPS with .25 gram bbs
400 FPS with .20 gram bbs

Are bio gradable bbs required?

NO.

Are goggles required?

YES! Goggles must be full seal and ANSI rated. SHOOTING GLASSES NOT PERMITTED.
